If you have a hard time reading first grade writing, here is the translation:
Thanksgiving Dinner is a special treat.
We give thanks for what we have and eat.
We give thanks for the world and our families and treats.
And we give thanks for Jesus and you and me.
We give thanks for food and houses.
Thanksgiving is a real special treat.
So when the pilgrims came to America they saw the Indians and shook their hands.

That is so adorable!! I was spot on until I got to "houses". I love her desk, too. She looks so studious in that picture! Happy Thanksgiving!
I know some 4th graders that can't write that well. Awesome! El! I loved it. I could read every word!!--but then again I've read 1st grade writing for a long time. Did she write this for school or all on her own?
Oops! I didn't read very well. Now, I see she wrote it at home.
great poem! she must get it from you!:) my speshl thanksgiving chret was getting a cheerio out of miller's nose this morning and it's only 8a.m.!
I think we should make it a thanksgiving tradition for Ella to read the poem before thanksgiving dinner every year, although I'm guessing Ella will hate me for that suggestion in about ten years. Way to go, Ella!
There was no need of translation for me, reading inventive spelling is my speciality. Thanks so much for posting it, it was a rile speshl chret. (I think this is precisely why I love the word verification)
Ella the poet. She is a very smart young lady who obviously thinks her family is spcl.
