Thanksgiving Dinr

A poem by Ella:

Thanksgiving Dinr is a speshl chret.
We give thanks for what we have and eat.
We give thanks for the wrold and are famlys and chrets.
And we give thanks for Jesus and you and me.
We give thanks for food and hoseis.
Thankgiving is rile a speshl chret.
So wen the pilgrums came to amruke they saw the indeins and shook thar hands.
So you see Thanksgiving is a speshl chret.

If you have a hard time reading first grade writing, here is the translation:

Thanksgiving Dinner is a special treat.
We give thanks for what we have and eat.
We give thanks for the world and our families and treats.
And we give thanks for Jesus and you and me.
We give thanks for food and houses.
Thanksgiving is a real special treat.
So when the pilgrims came to America they saw the Indians and shook their hands.
So you see Thanksgiving is a special treat.

She wrote the poem this morning. I think this is one I'll hang on to.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Verdict

Heidi was right on the dot with her guess. I received an estimate that it would cost $700 per chair, including labor and fabric.  I'm not sure if it's worth that or if we'll do it anytime soon, with the way things are with the economy. It's nice to know, anyway.

Have a great day, everyone.

Guessing Game

We've been in this house for just over two years, and Bob and I have finally started cleaning out our basement to make it a usable space. There are a few things that have been passed down to us that we need to either start putting to good use or give away.  Two such things are a pair of chairs that once belonged to Bob's Great Aunt Hattie. They are a beautiful shape and well-constructed, but the fabric is pretty dirty (there's a story behind why, but I won't get into that). So, I've sent a request to get an estimate on the cost of re-upholstering them. I thought it might be interesting to see what you all think the price will be and then compare your ideas to the actual estimate.

Any guesses?

Happy Birthday Mom!

It's strange. For the last couple of years when mom and I get together and are talking, we often have moments when we say the same things or find out that we are thinking the same thing at the same time. I guess I'm more like her than I had ever thought. I couldn't be more proud.

You are a wonderful Mom and Grammy. We are so blessed to have you!

Happy Birthday.

Halloween Highlights

  • Sophie's school party and scavenger hunt.
  • Ella's school party and parade.
  • Lucy getting a hold of a marker and "decorating" her face.  Hmm, I wonder who was in charge of keeping an eye on her?
  • The power struggle with Super Girl a.k.a Miss Independent, who wanted to trick or treat on her own. (I guess this should be classified as a lowlight).
  • Lucy spreading her affections between Landon and Miller. I have a feeling we'll have to keep our eye on that one.
  • Lucy spreading the green frosting from her cupcake all over herself.  Again, who was supposed to be watching her? Does anybody notice a theme developing with her?
  • The bonfire shared with friends and family.
