Hallowe'en at Greenfield Village

Last night we made our first trip to Greenfield Village with the girls. The blustery weather made for the perfect atmosphere for the "Halloween Nights" event. The girls had a good time, for the most part. Ella loved it. Lucy was in awe of all of the costumes. And Sophie had her good and bad moments; she seems to scare easier than the other two.

Highlights for me were when the scarecrow "scared" Ella, the pirates firing the cannon at the steamboat, and walking through the "Sleepy Hallow" area and seeing the headless horseman. I would definitely recommend this event for everybody next year.

Happy Shower Day

Aunt Jenny had her Woehlke-side wedding shower today. We tried something a bit different for our family by giving a brunch shower. The shower started at 10:00 a.m. and was officially over by 11:30.  Kellie's house looked beautiful and the food was delicious (thanks to Mom, Joan, and Kellie). And, of course, Jen was showered with lots of great gifts. Overall, I think it was a success. Eight weeks and counting until the wedding...

Happy Saturday everybody!

Bunches of Scrunches

For Sophie's 1st birthday, Andy gave her a book called "Autumn Walk" by Ann Burg. It quickly became one of my favorites. It always makes me think of days like today...and days like this are the reason why I feel fall is the best season of the year.

Here's an excerpt from my favorite part of the book, and it perfectly describes our afternoon:

Whirling and twirling, the leaves are calling. "Come play with us, come play!" Laughing like clowns, spinning around - autumn is here, let's play! Fistful of red, armsful of gold - throw them up high and jump! Bunches of scrunches and crunches of color land in a crinkly lump!

...Crackle, rustle, crinkle, and crunch through the cozy, darkening day. Crackle, rustle, crinkle, and crunch. Autumn is here! HOORAY!

Weekend Synopsis

Brad and Kellie graciously offered to take the kids for the night on Friday. Bob and I had a nice night out with Jen and Joel. We went to the Bridgewater Bank restaurant for dinner and then to Dan's in Saline for a few drinks.

Saturday morning I was able to sleep in until 8:00, which is unheard of for me in this house. Then Bob and I stopped for a quick breakfast before picking up the girls in Canton. The girls had a great time with Brad and Kellie. I hope Brad and Kellie did, too. They both looked pretty tired when we got there. I guess Lucy decided to wake up at 3:30.

We headed home and Bob and Ella went to the Michigan game with Troy and Colin.  The kids had fun. I wish I could say the same for Bob and Troy. The team sure is pathetic this year. After the game, Adrienne and Eli joined us for pizza. Congratulations to them; we found out they're expecting their third in March.

Sunday we went to church and then to the Apple Umpkin festival in Tecumseh so we could visit Aunt Mary's carnival. Mary did a great job with the event and the girls really liked the Egyptian "haunted" house.

Sorry for the lengthy post. I hope everyone had a nice weekend, too.

10 Years!

As I was looking at the calendar, today, I realized that Bob proposed to me 10 years ago today (I think). Here's a picture of us that evening in Oma and Opa's barn. The church was having a barn dance that night, so we stopped by to show mom and dad my ring.  Afterwards, Bob took me to the Gandy Dancer. What do you think; do we look different??

Lucyism of the Day

This morning I was woken by Lucy calling for me. Usually, it's "Mommy, Mommy." But, today she was calling "Emowee, Emowee." It was pretty funny, especially considering she was still half asleep, herself.  That got my day off to a happy start.

Hope you had a happy one!

Friday Happenings

Happy Birthday GG! We love you so much and hope you have a wonderful day!

I'm also very excited to announce that my friend, Andrea, has decided to take up blogging as well. Please check out her page, The Wandering Wrights

In other news, I've decided to start potty training Lucy. She's been giving us signs that she's ready, so I thought I'd better take advantage of that now so I don't miss the opportunity. She is much younger than the other girls when they started, so we'll see how this goes. I don't want to jinx myself, but so far so good. And, as you can see, I've got a good helper.

Happy Friday!
